Steve is creating a personal art series exploring identity and contrast through portraiture. I am looking for couples and families that have vast physical differences. I want to capture those AND how strong their bond is in a portrait. I want to hear your stories. How you met. What brought you together. I want this project to speak to how we can all come together despite our differences and focus on our commonalities. I want to tell your story...
To apply, complete the form — participants are chosen by Steve and his team. After review; selected applicants will be contacted with scheduling details.

Why black and white? Black and white portrait photography holds a timeless power—its simplicity is its strength. By stripping away color, it removes distractions and invites the viewer to focus on what truly matters: the subject’s expression, posture, and emotional presence.
Without the influence of color palettes or background hues, the eye is drawn to the interplay of light and shadow, the texture of skin, the glint in an eye, the subtle tension in a handhold. These tonal contrasts emphasize the emotional depth and physical uniqueness of the people in the frame.
In portraits of couples or families with opposite physical traits, black and white elevates the contrast without sensationalizing it. It lets the differences speak quietly but powerfully, while keeping the spotlight on the connection between them—the shared glance, the mirrored body language, the intimacy that transcends appearance.
Ultimately, black and white photography distills the image to its essence. It’s not just about how people look, but how they feel together. And that’s where the magic lives.

This is a personal art project for Steve. I started working on black and white "relationship" style portraits about a year and had an idea to up the ante. I wanted to capture both the differences and the attraction in the same photograph. As a whole, I wanted the project to show that no matter what our differences are we can all find our commonalities, celebrate our diversity and live in harmony. To apply, please complete the inquiry form on this page. Applicants will be reviewed and selected to participate.

We want your stories. We will attach these stories to your images to create an art project that celebrates diversity and inclusion. On the application form there is a place to include your story. It doesn't have to be long or well written, we can help with some of that. But, participants will be selected largely based on those stories. Our main goal, of course, is to be able to tell that story with the image. Pictures are worth 1,000 words they say. But, we want to take that a step further and pull back the veil and explain to people what they are looking at.
